Texas Triumphs Touring Texas
March 5, 2022 @ 10:00 am
Join us for a guided tour through a cultural gem in Texas. In the late 1800s and early 1900s, the Czech and German immigrants who settled the Hill Country built a collection of beautiful churches, replicas of the ones they’d left behind in Europe — and today, the painted churches of Texas are some of the most noteworthy attractions in the state. There are more than 20 painted churches in Texas, with many listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Enjoy some delightful country roads we will traverse to reach our destinations
• We have4 churches reserved for March 5 for a tour for $20 incl. tip.
• The plan is to meet at the Chamber of Commerce office 618 N Main St, Schulenburg, TX 78956 at 10AM. Leave the lot for some scenic driving and see 2 churches, lunch stop, more driving to seethe last 2.
• Several hotels are available online. Book a hotel room if you need one through https://www.schulenburgchamber.org/schulenburg.
• Please RSVP to Mike McPhail email@example.com by March 3.
UPDATE FROM Mike: The tour is just a week away! A few of us are driving down Friday, March 4, although I decided to cancel my reservation at the HIE and lead the day-trippers on Saturday morning.
Let’s meet in the Cell Phone Parking Lot of the Austin Airport for an 8:15 AM sharp departure to the Schulenburg Chamber of Commerce. There is a Whataburger there if you want to come early for coffee, etc. Come with a full tank of gas…it is 70 miles to Schulenburg, and the four churches are scattered around the area.
We will arrive just before 10 AM in time to cough up the $20 cash per person fee for our guide. There will be a lunch stop about noon (not part of the $20).
